Club Championship 2005/2006

Club Championship 2005/2006

This year these tournaments will be in the conventional swiss form with five rounds. All players will compete together in the first three rounds. Players in the top half of the table after three rounds will continue in the Major championship. Players in the bottom half will be entered into the Minor championship.

All games are to be 34 moves in 1hr 25mins with a 20 minute quickplay finish.

There will be no time extensions. Unless there are special circumstances, games not completed on time will be decided on grading. The higher graded player will be considered to have won unless the gradings are within 100 points in which case the game will be considered drawn. Any byes which arise will be considered as draws. After the five rounds any player who played less than three games (including byes as games played) will be eliminated from consideration for the championships. The rest will be given their average score to the nearest half point over games actually played (excluding byes) and these scores will then decide the championships. In the event of a tie the tied players will play off.

Grading Data

Round 5 - to be completed by 15th March 2006

A draw in the last round will secure the title again for Alan. Games to be played preferably by 15th March, but as there will be no further round other than a play-off if necessary the time limit can be extended until the club closes for the summer. Might be a good time for unplayed games to be played.

White   vs   Black
Alan Prince (4)      -      Gordon Macdonald (2½)
Rudolph Austin (3)      -      Crawford Macnab (3)
Douglas Heatlie (2)   ½   -   ½   Gerry Brown (1½)
Simon Bate (2)      -      Scott Reed (2)
Paul McQuillan (2)   1   -   0   Michael Gilroy (2)
David Pirie (1½)   0   -   1   Patrick Miller (2)
Brian O'Donnell (1)   0   -   1   Alex Powell (1)
George Anderson (½)   ½   -      Bye

There was a play-off for the minor championship between Paul and Patrick which Paul won.

Round 4 - to be completed by 15th February 2006

Championship now splits into two, the top 8 players from the first 3 rounds are entered into the major championship and the bottom 7 into the minor. On paper Scott has two unplayed games which should he win would put him right back in contention.

White   vs   Black
Crawford Macnab (3)   0   -   1   Alan Prince (3)
Simon Bate (2)   0   -   1   Rudolph Austin (2)
Gordon Macdonald (1½)   1   -   0   Gerry Brown (1½)
Scott Reed (1½)      -      Douglas Heatlie (1½)
Patrick Miller (1½)   ½   -   ½   Paul McQuillan (1½)
Michael Gilroy (1)   1   -   0   Brian O'Donnell (1)
George Anderson (½)   0   -   1   David Pirie (½)
Alex Powell (½)   ½   -      Bye

Round 3 - to be completed by 18th January 2006

Will Rudolph turn up for his game against Alan?!.

White   vs   Black
Alan Prince (2)   1   -   0   Rudolph Austin (2)
Simon Bate (2)   0   -   1   Crawford Macnab (2)
Paul McQuillan (1)   ½   -   ½   Douglas Heatlie (1)
Gerry Brown (1)      -      Scott Reed (1)
Gordon Macdonald (½)      -      Sandy Powell (½)
Patrick Miller (½)   1   -   0   Michael Gilroy (1)
Brian O'Donnell (½)   ½   -   ½   George Anderson (0)
David Pirie (0)   ½   -      Bye

Rudolph did turn up with his usual "special" opening! Alan sacrificed material trapping the black king in the centre from which there was no escape. A chance to move the black king into the corner with Kb8 was not taken which would have given a black more chances although white still looked to have an edge.

Round 2 - to be completed by 30th November 2005

Alan has now won his last 6 club championship games. Can Douglas stop him?!.

White   vs   Black
Douglas Heatlie (1)   0   -   1   Alan Prince (1)
Crawford Macnab (1)      -      Scott Reed (1)
Michael Gilroy (1)   0   -   1   Rudolph Austin (1)
Simon Bate (1)   1   -   0   Gordon Macdonald (0)
George Anderson (0)   0   -   1   Gerry Brown (0)
Paul McQuillan (0)      -      David Pirie (0)
Sandy Powell (0)   ½   -   ½   Patrick Miller (0)
Brian O'Donnell (0)   ½   -      Bye

Not this year, Alan's run continues! Simon and Rudolph are now also on full points.

Round 1 - to be completed by 2nd November 2005

On paper Alan is again the player to beat though Rudolphs early season form suggests that he may put up a strong challenge this year.

White   vs   Black
Alan Prince   1   -   0   Paul McQuillan
Patrick Miller   0   -   1   Crawford Macnab
Rudolph Austin   1   -   0   George Anderson
David Pirie   0   -   1   Simon Bate
Gerry Brown   0   -   1   Michael Gilroy
Sandy Powell   0   -   1   Douglas Heatlie
Scott Reed   1   -   0   Brian O'Donnell

No draws! All games went with grading apart from Michaels win against Gerry.
