Crawford Macnab was club champion for season 2003/2004.

Paul McQuillan won the plate competition.

The crucial game was probably a fortunate win for Crawford Macnab with the black pieces over Simon Bate. White had the better of the opening and converted this to a material advantage going an exchange up, taking the rook on a8 for bishop.

Position after 18...cxd6.

This however left the black minor pieces very active with a queenside pawn majority against the exposed white king.
